Our client, a leading organisation in the defence and security sector, is currently seeking a Cloud Engineer to join their team in Harlow, Essex on a hybrid working basis. This is a permanent role with a fixed-term contract for 12 months, full-time at 37 hours per week. The position requires Security Clearance (SC) eligibility.

Key Responsibilities:Cloud Architecture & Integration:
  • Contribute to the design of a hybrid Azure/on-premise architecture ensuring secure, compliant, and high-performing data flows.
  • Support creation of a cloud foundation that will extend beyond data workloads into application hosting.
  • Work closely with cloud engineers, architecture, and security teams to apply rigorous standards for identity, access management, networking, encryption, and monitoring.
Collaboration & Technical Input:
  • Work closely with Data Architects to refine designs, challenge assumptions, and contribute engineering insights to architectural decisions.
  • Collaborate with wider technology teams, business stakeholders, and programme partners to ensure solutions meet operational needs.
Data Quality, Security & Governance:
  • Implement engineering practices that ensure high data quality, including validation, monitoring, reconciliation, and automated testing.
  • Embed secure by design, including encryption, access control, secure data movement, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Operational Excellence:
  • Build resilient, high-performing cloud platforms capable of supporting financial reporting workloads.
  • Develop and maintain reusable engineering patterns, components, and frameworks.
  • Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimise data processes for efficiency and reliability.
Job Requirements:Essential:
  • Proven track record of building foundational cloud capabilities in a large, complex enterprise environment.
  • Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable cloud patterns and guardrails.
  • Ability to work within structured governance frameworks and contribute to platform engineering standards.
Desirable:
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technology, governance, risk, compliance, and finance teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic, delivery-focused approach.
