Senior SRE (Java)The Opportunity: A Software-First Approach to Reliability

I am currently partnering with a majorFTSE 100 FinTech company that is undergoing a massive modernisation and observability overhaul. They aren't looking for a traditional, infrastructure-heavy SRE; they need aSenior Java Developer who has recently transitioned into the SRE space.

My client operates high-performance trading platforms for over 340,000 global users. They need an engineer who can "get under the hood" of a Java codebase to build, debug, and instrument for high-scale reliability while defining the standards for their future cloud-native architecture.

Why This Role is Different
  • True Engineering Ownership: You'll be helping the division from the ground up by defining SLOs/SLIs and implementingOpenTelemetry (Otel) and tracing across distributed systems.

  • Modernisation at Scale: This is a "roll up your sleeves" environment moving heavily toward cloud-native services and containerised infrastructure.

  • High Visibility: You will bridge the gap between code and infrastructure, working directly with internal departments and the UK leadership team to champion reliability patterns.

  • Complex Challenges: You'll work with high-throughput, low-latency trading operations that demand zero downtime, focusing on JVM performance tuning and message-driven systems.

The Essentials
  • The Foundation: 5+ years of Java development experience with a deep understanding of JVM internals.

  • The SRE Pivot: Recent experience in a Site Reliability or Observability role, with hands-on knowledge ofOpenTelemetry, Jaeger, or similar tracing tools.

  • The Mindset: A strong philosophy on what makes a "good" SLO and a passion for eliminating toil through automation.

  • Technical Breadth: Experience with message brokers (Kafka, ActiveMQ), containerization (Nomad/Docker), and troubleshooting distributed systems.

  • Systems Thinking: A passion for both software development and reliability engineering, applying discipline to solve operational challenges at scale.

The Perks
  • Flexible Benefits: A12% flexible fund on top of your base salary to spend on what matters to you (medical, dental, etc.).

  • Generous Time Off: 25 days holiday, plus your birthday off and 2 days for voluntary work (28 total).

  • Health & Wellbeing: Private medical cover for you and your family, plus contributions to gym memberships.

  • Growth: Unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning, tailored development programs, and mentoring with senior leaders.

  • Inclusive Culture: Active employee-led networks (LGBTQ+, Women's, Black, and Parents & Carers) with dedicated budgets for events and projects.

If you are a Java expert who has found your calling in Reliability and Observability, I would love to discuss the company, the role, and the compensation package with you.

Where to Advertise Cloud Computing Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Advertising cloud computing jobs in the UK requires a different approach to most technical hiring. The candidate pool is large relative to other deep tech disciplines but highly segmented — cloud architects, DevOps engineers, platform engineers, FinOps specialists and cloud security professionals each occupy distinct communities with different job search behaviours, certification profiles and salary expectations. General job boards reach a broad audience but struggle to differentiate between these disciplines, producing high application volumes but low candidate quality for specialist cloud roles. This guide, published by CloudComputingJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise cloud computing roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

Cloud Computing Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

Cloud computing is the infrastructure layer on which the modern digital economy runs — and the jobs market that has grown around it is one of the largest, most sustained, and most structurally resilient in the entire technology sector. But the cloud computing jobs market of 2026 looks quite different from the one that existed three years ago, and the next three years will bring further change at a pace that rewards those who understand the direction of travel. The migration phase that defined cloud hiring for much of the previous decade is largely complete for enterprise organisations. The question for most UK businesses is no longer whether to move to the cloud but how to operate, optimise, and secure what they have already built there — and how to integrate the wave of AI capability that is now being delivered primarily through cloud infrastructure. That shift has profound implications for which cloud skills are in demand, which roles are growing, and which are beginning to plateau. At the same time, new architectural patterns — multi-cloud, cloud-native, serverless, and the growing integration of edge computing with centralised cloud infrastructure — are creating entirely new categories of specialist expertise that employers are actively competing to hire. The cloud computing jobs market of 2026 is not contracting. It is evolving, and evolving in ways that create significant opportunity for job seekers who are building the right skills. This article breaks down what the UK cloud computing jobs market is likely to look like through to 2028 — covering the titles emerging right now, the technologies driving employer demand, the skills that will matter most, and how to position your career ahead of the curve.
