I am searching for an experienced and enthusiastic PHP Developer for an exciting business based in South Devon. You will ideally be a Middleweight to Senior Developer experienced in developing bespoke software solutions from stakeholder driven business requirements.

In this position you will play a key role in developing and maintaining a range of business-critical applications, websites and system integrations.

The role is offered on a hybrid working basis, 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week working from home.

The office is based near to Newton Abbot, Chudleigh, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh - its easily accessible from the A38.

To be considered for the role you will need to be located within a commutable distance of the office, or you will be able to relocate to the area at short notice.

In this role you will be responsible for: -

Developing bespoke software and middleware solutions to support and help grow business operations.
Deliver high-quality, secure code using modern and best practice approaches.
Collaborating with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
Troubleshooting and resolving issues across development environments.
Mentoring more junior team members, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
Staying current with industry trends, frameworks and emerging technologies.We are looking to speak with collaborative, hands-on PHP Developers who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

You MUST value clean code, modern development practices, and believe in sharing knowledge with others. You will be confident in leading discussions with technical and non-technical stakeholders, designing solutions to solve key business challenges.

Required Skills

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
3 to 4 years minimum commercial PHP development experience.
Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and SOLID principles.
Solid knowledge of secure coding practices (e.g. OWASP).
Experience with modern PHP frameworks (preferably Laravel or Symfony).
Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL) and writing performant queries.
Comfortable working with Git, Composer and modern development workflows.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Nice to Have Skills

Familiar with Agile / Scrum methodologies.
Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit/PEST).
Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
Experience with Docker and containerised development environments.
Exposure to modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js, React or similar).
