Senior Software Developer – PHP / Laravel

Maidstone, Kent

Salary: Up to £55,000

Office-based (with some flexibility)

Are you confident with Laravel and ready to take ownership of key projects?

Looking to join a company that invests in quality, not chaos?

We are recruiting for a long-established and successful company based in Maidstone, Kent, looking to expand their internal development team. They are looking for a Senior Software Developer with strong PHP Laravel experience to take ownership of both greenfield and ongoing projects, from system design through to implementation and delivery.

You will be a technical leader in the team, helping to shape the architecture, support junior developers, and contribute to continual improvements across the stack.

The Role:

  • Leading the design and development of new features using PHP and Laravel

  • Building scalable and secure web applications for internal and external use

  • Working closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and propose solutions

  • Designing and integrating RESTful APIs and third-party services

  • Writing clean, testable code using modern development practices

  • Supporting and mentoring other developers through code reviews and collaboration

  • Contributing to architecture decisions and technical roadmaps

  • Maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes

    Requirements:

  • 5+ years' commercial development experience (PHP and Laravel essential)

  • Strong knowledge of Laravel features: Eloquent ORM, routing, Blade templating, middleware, queues

  • Solid experience with MySQL or other relational databases

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript (Vue.js or similar frameworks a bonus)

  • Good understanding of RESTful APIs, Git workflows, and CI/CD practices

  • Testing experience (PHPUnit, feature testing)

  • Bonus points for exposure to Docker, cloud platforms, or infrastructure tools

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset

  • Keen to take initiative and drive technical excellence within the team
