Position: Senior PHP Developer
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid - 1 - 2 days per week in the office)
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + Benefits

Overview

We're on the lookout for a talented Senior PHP Developer to join a forward-thinking digital team in Birmingham. This is a hands-on role where you'll work across a modern web stack to deliver performant, scalable applications that support business growth.

You'll take an active role in shaping the technical direction, working closely with product and design teams to deliver clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex problems and is passionate about building high-quality digital solutions.

What You'll Do

Design, build, and maintain web applications using modern PHP frameworks.
Develop within LAMP environments.
Write high-quality, testable code and contribute to automated testing strategies (e.g. PHPUnit).
Manage and optimise cloud-hosted Linux servers and MySQL databases, ideally within AWS.
Build and support CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments.
Work collaboratively within an Agile team, using tools such as Jira for sprint management.
Ensure reliability, security, and performance across all applications.Your Experience

Extensive commercial experience in PHP development.
Strong proficiency with Laravel and modern web frameworks.
Hands-on experience with cloud-based Linux systems and MySQL database administration.
Confident in version control (Git) and automated deployment practices.
Comfortable working independently and owning project deliverables.
Knowledge of testing frameworks and best practices in TDD.Bonus Skills

Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
Professional PHP or MySQL certifications (Zend, PHP Development, etc.).
Familiarity with scalable architecture design and microservices principles.
