Lead Software Engineer – Underwriting Innovation London | Hybrid Working (3 Days in Office) Up to £90,000 + 20% Bonus + 10% Pension + Comprehensive Benefits

A leading global insurer is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join its Underwriting Performance Innovation team, focused on transforming Property & Casualty underwriting through cutting-edge technology.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a cross-functional team of actuaries, technologists, and reinsurance specialists, building tools that empower underwriters with richer, real-time insights. Current and upcoming products include exposure mapping platforms, LLM-powered document processing, and performance analytics dashboards.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Lead and mentor software engineers, fostering technical excellence and continuous learning

Collaborate with Value and Delivery Leads to scale from one autonomous team to multiple aligned squads

Guide the design and implementation of software solutions that support underwriting strategy

Drive agile practices and DevOps maturity, managing technical debt and enabling innovation

Champion new ways of working, especially those enabled by generative AI and emerging technologies

Build strong relationships across IT, Data, Security, and Architecture teams

✅ What They’re Looking For:

A well-rounded leader with strong technical depth and people management experience

Proven ability to coach teams and establish high-quality delivery processes

Comfortable navigating ambiguity and fast-paced transformation environments

Passionate about leveraging technology to solve real-world problems

Quick to learn new platforms, languages, and tools

Focused on outcomes—balancing technical quality with business impact

Skills & Experience:

BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent

Experience leading development teams and mentoring engineers

Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and agile delivery

Hands-on experience with Python, React, FastAPI, and AWS

Appetite for experimentation and continuous improvement

Experience designing and integrating APIs and containerised applications

Compensation Package Includes:

Base salary up to £90,000

20% annual bonus

10% employer pension contribution

Hybrid working model with 3 days per week in the London office
