Infrastructure Engineer (Microsoft Tech) - Manchester (Hybrid)
Salary up to £55,000 + Bonus + On-Call Allowance
The Role
If you're a Senior Infrastructure Engineer who's become the go-to person for complex technical issues and wants more influence without moving into people management, this could be the ideal next step.
We're looking for a Senior Corporate & Cloud Support Engineer to become the technical authority within a Corporate Support function undergoing significant change. This is a role for someone who enjoys ownership, solving complex problems, and driving improvements across cloud, identity, and corporate infrastructure services.
You'll act as the senior escalation point for the team, leading technical projects, shaping future improvements, and helping deliver a roadmap that will modernise the environment over the coming years.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional management position. There are no performance reviews, HR responsibilities, or people management duties.
Instead, you'll take on the parts of leadership that most senior engineers enjoy:
- Technical ownership
- Project leadership
- Technical decision-making
- Architecture influence
- Mentoring and guidance
- Driving improvements and modernisation initiatives
You'll work closely with Infrastructure and Information Security teams while remaining hands-on with the technology.
What You'll Be Doing
- Acting as the senior technical escalation point for complex incidents and issues
- Owning and delivering infrastructure, cloud, and identity-focused projects
- Driving improvements across Microsoft identity, access management, and corporate IT services
- Supporting disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity initiatives
- Partnering with Information Security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and improve security posture
- Helping shape the technical roadmap and future direction of the Corporate Support function
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience working within a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Technical Lead, or similar environment
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, this is the most important technical requirement
- Strong Active Directory and hybrid identity experience
- Experience leading technical projects and taking ownership of major incidents and escalations
- Azure exposure and a solid understanding of Microsoft cloud technologies
- A proactive engineer who enjoys solving problems, improving services, and driving change
Nice To Have
- VMware exposure
- Backup and Disaster Recovery experience
- Vulnerability remediation experience
- Experience working alongside Information Security teams
