Application Architect

Duration: 12 Months

Location: Croydon / Hybrid- 1 day PW on-site

Due to the urgency and sensitivity of the work, active SC Clearance is mandatory.

Responsibilities

As an Application Architect, you will:

Design and lead delivery of scalable, high-performance application architectures

Define and apply modern application architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven architectures, and SOA

Support monolith-to-microservices transformation initiatives where required

Architect cloud-native applications across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP

Design API strategies, integration patterns, and messaging-based solutions

Ensure strong alignment with application lifecycle management, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices

Work closely with platform and engineering teams to align application design with infrastructure-as-code and platform services

Embed application security principles, including authentication, authorisation, secure APIs, and data protection

Provide architectural guidance, assurance, and governance across delivery phases

Must-Have Skills & Experience

Proven experience as an Application Architect or Senior Software Engineer operating at architectural level

Strong expertise in designing and delivering scalable, high-performance applications

Solid understanding of application architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven, SOA)

Experience designing cloud-native applications on AWS, Azure, and/or GCP

Strong knowledge of API design, integration patterns, and messaging technologies

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and application lifecycle management

Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and platform services supporting application deployment

Strong grasp of application security principles (authentication, authorisation, secure APIs, data protection)

Active SC Clearance

Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience designing and deploying containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes

Hands-on exposure to DevOps tooling for build, test, and release automation

Experience working in regulated, enterprise, or large-scale environments

Architecture or cloud certifications (e.g. TOGAF, AWS/Azure/GCP Solutions Architect)

Familiarity with application monitoring, logging, and observability tools to support reliability and performance
