x1 Senior Software Engineer / x1 Staff Software Engineer

Location: Wimborne, Dorset UK (hybrid).

Salary: £60k to £78k (negotiable based on the seniority and role) plus annual bonus.

We are seeking 2 talented individuals to join a dynamic R&D team in Bournemouth, UK. This role will be pivotal in designing, implementing, and maintaining software platforms for some of the most advanced products in the scientific field.

About the Role:

As a Senior & Staff Software Engineer, you will be a technical leader within a Scrum team, collaborating with hardware engineers’ teams to deliver new systems, components, and features. You will take ownership of the desktop software platform for our instruments, focusing on configuration, data acquisition, and analysis. This position requires a strong bias for action, excellent decision-making skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and maintain software features and applications.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues.

  • Control hardware components through software.

  • Contribute to sprint planning and documentation.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship.

  • Integrate new features and design workflows.

  • Participate in design reviews and backlog prioritisation.

    Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of .NET software experience with hardware platforms in a regulated domain (e.g., ISO9001).

  • Expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and usability.

  • Strong WPF, web services, and MS SQL experience.

  • Deep understanding of multithreading, asynchronous programming, image processing, and large datasets.

  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps/JIRA, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience designing device control/imaging software (e.g., axis control, camera/lighting control) and serial communication protocols.

  • Familiarity with automated testing, internationalization, localization, certificate management, and installer creation.

  • Proven ability to debug complex hardware systems.

  • Experience with Agile/Waterfall methodologies.

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (Bachelor's considered with significant experience).
