We’re looking for a Senior Java Developer for our public sector client based in Leeds on an initial contract paying up to £700 per day Inside IR35 on an initial 12 month contract.

This role requires 3 days per week in the office and applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC) or hold a current SC.

You will be a hands-on technical leader, setting direction for your team, ensuring alignment to standards, and driving the delivery of secure, high-quality digital services. The work will contribute to the transformation of critical national platforms, supporting millions of people across the UK.

Key responsibilities include:

• Setting technical direction for your service or capability, in line with organisational strategy

• Ensuring teams follow best practice, standards, and secure design principles

• Leading engineers while remaining a hands-on contributor

• Collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams and engaging with stakeholders

• Driving the evolution of digital services and underpinning infrastructure

Essential skills:

• Strong experience in one or both of the following:

• Modern software engineering for digital products (Java, microservices, Hexagonal architecture, MongoDB, Kafka)

• OR Cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and automation (AWS, Terraform, GitLab CI, Jenkins)

• Proven track record of leading engineering teams, providing technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring

• Deep knowledge of engineering best practice (version control, assurance, secure design)

• Strong collaboration and ability to share knowledge within engineering communities

• Experience delivering in complex, multi-disciplinary environments to tight timescales
