Head of Architecture & Platform Engineering | Central London | 5 days on-site | Permanent | Up to £120,000

Are you a visionary technology leader ready to shape the future of a leading professional services firm? A prestigious Independent Professional Services provider, is seeking an exceptional Head of Architecture and Platform Engineering to join their technology leadership team in London. This is a unique opportunity to lead the strategic architecture and platform engineering efforts, driving technical innovation, optimise the Microsoft-centric Azure-native ecosystem, and empower teams to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient solutions that fuel business growth and operational excellence.

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: Up to £120,000 (DOE) 

Working Arrangement: 5 days on-site 

Office Location: Central London

The Role

As the Head of Architecture and Platform Engineering, you will:

Define and lead the enterprise architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Oversee a talented platform engineering team (3 platform engineers + 1 cyber engineer), fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

Drive optimisation of our Microsoft E5 licence investment, enhancing Azure-native infrastructure and platform services.

Collaborate with the Head of Software Engineering to establish software architecture patterns and integration approaches for tools like Sage, Kantata, Concur, and Workato.

Establish robust architectural governance, including review boards, documentation, and best practice guidelines.

Lead technical due diligence for new technology initiatives and vendor selections, working with partners like Masergy and Rapid 7.

Champion modern platform engineering practices, including infrastructure-as-code, observability, and automated deployments.

Contribute to strategic technology roadmaps and support business transformation initiatives

Required Experience: 

Extensive experience in enterprise architecture and platform engineering leadership roles, with a proven track record of driving technical strategy.

Extensive experience leading teams - Managing and developing platform engineering teams through regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and tailored development plans.

Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure platform services, cloud-native solution design, and Microsoft 365 (E5 suite) optimisation.

Strong understanding of financial services regulatory requirements and security architecture principles.

Demonstrated success in leading platform engineering teams and implementing infrastructure-as-code and DevOps practices.

Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with experience influencing senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Proven ability to establish architecture governance frameworks and system integration patterns.

Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, platform automation, and API architecture design.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in professional services or regulated industries.

Familiarity with integration platforms (e.g., Workato) and middleware solutions.

Knowledge of ITSM frameworks and operational excellence practices.

Experience with vendor management and technology procurement.

Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, TOGAF).
