We are seeking a talented mid-Level Backend Developer with experience in both Java and Node.js/TypeScript for an exciting 6-month contract role with a global financial services client in Canary Wharf. This position offers a daily rate of £700 via an umbrella company.

The Role

You will be an integral part of our development team, with a focus on both backend development and infrastructure-related tasks. A key part of your role will be to refactor an existing codebase from Node.js to Java to align with the bank's infrastructure strategy and address technical debt. You will also be responsible for maintaining existing scalable backend applications. This is a hands-on role where you will contribute high-quality code and robust software solutions while working with the team to meet tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities include:

Maintaining existing scalable backend applications using Java, Node.js, and TypeScript.
Migrating backend applications to Java to align with the bank's preferred infrastructure.
Utilising Docker and Kubernetes for containerisation.
Implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
Monitoring system performance and managing deployments.
Writing comprehensive unit and integration tests.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of industry experience developing backend systems. While no previous banking background is required, you must have a proficient understanding and practical experience with both Java and TypeScript.

You must have:

Strong experience with Java and Node.js/TypeScript.
Expertise with Azure.
Experience with GraphQL, demonstrating an ability to design robust API endpoints.
Proven experience developing backend systems using Java & Node.js/TypeScript.
Strong knowledge of containerization technologies, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
A solid understanding of managing GitHub and GitHub Actions for CI/CD integration.
A proven ability to write unit and integration tests as a fundamental part of the development process.
A solid understanding of SQL databases and their management.
