How you’ll spend your day

As a Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the design, development, and maintenance of complex backend systems, working closely with a small, experienced team.

You’ll be:

* Developing and maintaining applications using C# .NET (Core)

* Contributing to the design of scalable, high-performance systems handling large volumes of data

* Building backend services and APIs to support web and mobile applications

* Working on a variety of projects, from real-time data processing to reporting and analytics platforms

* Collaborating with team members to scope requirements and deliver effective technical solutions

* Supporting integrations with third-party systems such as CRM and finance platforms

* Participating in code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement of development practices

* Gaining exposure to modern technologies including cloud platforms, microservices, and containerisation

What you’ll bring to this role

We’re looking for someone with a solid foundation in software development who is eager to grow and take on more responsibility within a supportive environment.

You’ll bring:

* Commercial experience with C# .NET / .NET Core

* Experience working on complex or data-driven systems

* Knowledge of LINQ and Entity Framework

* Familiarity with Git and tools such as JIRA

* Understanding of software development best practices and system design principles

* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

* Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team

Nice to have (but not essential):

* Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS or Azure)

* Experience with APIs, microservices, or distributed systems

* Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or modern DevOps practices

* Frontend experience (e.g. Angular)

* Experience working with large datasets or NoSQL databases

* Exposure to Claude and AI

Most importantly, you’ll have a curious mindset, a willingness to learn, and a proactive approach to development.

Flexible working options:

* 4-day week (8am–6pm) with Monday or Friday off

* 5-day week with flexi-time (core hours 9:30am–4:30pm)

Hybrid working – typically 1 day per week in the Derby office

20–25 days holiday + bank holidays (depending on working pattern)
