Senior Software Engineer - Node.js / TypeScript / AWS - Cheshire

This is not the kind of role where you join a big engineering team, pick up tickets, and stay neatly in your lane.

It’s a small team. Greenfield work. Real ownership.

I’m working with a fintech business looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join them on a permanent basis as they build out a number of new products and modernise parts of an existing platform estate.

This is a genuinely broad role. You’ll be working across full stack TypeScript development, cloud / DevOps, architecture, and product build-out, in a business where there’s a lot to do and a lot of room to make an impact.

(And, as it’s FinTech, there are some good benefits - high pension, 10% bonus, Electric Car Scheme etc)

What you’ll be doing

Building new greenfield products from scratch

*

Working across frontend, backend, cloud, and DevOps

*

Helping shape technical direction in a small, hands-on team

*

Building modern platforms that will replace and improve older legacy systems over time

*

Getting involved in multiple products rather than one narrow workstream

*

Working in an environment that is increasingly AI-enabled, where engineering approach matters just as much as code output

This is the kind of role where you need to be comfortable figuring things out.

Not because there’s no support, but because this is a smaller setup where people are expected to think for themselves, take ownership, and get moving.

Tech-wise, they’re looking for experience around:

*

Node.js

*

TypeScript

*

AWS

*

Modern full stack product development

*

Cloud and DevOps experience

*

Building and shipping products in smaller, fast-moving environments

*

Strong engineering fundamentals and good technical judgement

There is also some legacy platform exposure in the background, so any understanding of older stacks like PHP would be useful, but the focus of this hire is very much on the newer greenfield work.

The kind of person who’ll do well here

*

You’ve worked in a small team or scale-up style environment before

*

You’re happy being hands-on across multiple areas, not just one layer of the stack

*

You don’t need a perfectly structured team around you to be effective

*

You care about how software gets built, not just whether it works

*

You’re comfortable using modern AI tools as part of your workflow, but you still think like an engineer

This one is much more about mindset and capability than someone who just says “I only do frontend” or “I only do backend”.

They need a genuine all-rounder.

What’s on offer

*

10% bonus

*

Strong pension contribution

*

Additional benefits through a larger group-backed package

*

Long-term opportunity to help shape multiple new products

*

Hybrid working with 3 days a week onsite in Cheshire

How Many Cloud Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Cloud Job?

If you are aiming for a role in cloud computing, it can feel like the skills list never ends. One job advert asks for AWS, Terraform and Kubernetes. Another mentions Azure DevOps, PowerShell and ARM templates. A third throws in Docker, Python, Linux, CI/CD, monitoring tools and security frameworks. It is no surprise that many cloud job seekers feel overwhelmed before they even apply. Here is the reality most cloud hiring managers agree on: they are not hiring you because you know every cloud tool. They are hiring you because you understand cloud concepts, can design reliable systems, manage costs, keep things secure and support real workloads. Tools matter, but only when they support outcomes. So how many cloud computing tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most roles, the answer is far fewer than you think. This article explains what employers really expect, which tools are essential, which are role-specific, and how to focus your learning so you look capable and employable rather than scattered.
