Senior Java Engineer - Payments

UK Wide or Dublin | Remote First | Permanent

We are currently recruiting for an experiencedSenior Java Engineer to join a leading technology consultancy delivering large-scale payment transformation programmes for major banking clients.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the development and delivery of modern, cloud-based payment platforms. You'll work with experienced engineering teams and banking stakeholders to build highly scalable, secure and resilient payment solutions.

ICON IPF experience is essential for this position.

The Role

As a Senior Java Engineer, you will:
  • Develop and deliver large-scale payment solutions usingJava 11, Spring Boot and microservices.
  • Work extensively withICON IPF within complex payment environments.
  • Design and implement scalable, cloud-based solutions withinAWS.
  • Build and integrate asynchronous, event-driven services usingApache Kafka.
  • Work withISO 20022 payment standards, schemes and payment types.
  • Contribute to technical design, development, testing and deployment across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with banking clients and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver robust payment solutions.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, business analysts and wider delivery teams.
  • Support the development of high-quality, maintainable code within modern engineering practices.
About You

We're looking for a Senior Java Engineer who has a strong background in payments and can demonstrategenuine hands-on ICON IPF experience.

You'll ideally have:
  • Extensive commercial experience withJava 11.
  • StrongSpring Boot and microservices experience.
  • Hands-on experience withICON IPF.
  • StrongAWS experience.
  • Solid experience withApache Kafka and asynchronous messaging.
  • Strong understanding ofISO 20022, including payment types and schemes.
  • Experience delivering technology solutions formajor banking organisations.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience working within modern cloud architectures.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable
  • 18+ months' experience working with the ICON platform.
  • ICON IPF certification.
  • Experience working across complex banking/payment transformation programmes.
Location & Working Model

This is aremote-first role and candidates can be based anywhere in the UK or Dublin.

Dublin-based candidates will also be expected to attend the client site approximately twice per month.

  • Competitive salary depending on location and experience.
  • Up to £75,000-£80,000
