💷 Salary: £44,241 (The base pay is £44,241. In addition to this the role includes a Digital and Data allowance of up to £14,552.

Candidates based in Yeading will receive the London Weighting allowance of £4,000)

Join DVSA’s mission to make roads safer and more efficient by shaping the future of digital public services. As a Senior Dev Ops Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing, building, and evolving high-impact digital platforms and services that serve millions across the UK.

We’re looking for experienced Senior DevOps Engineers to join DVSA’s Cloud Platform team, working with teams to automate, operate, design and build cloud services.

Working in a product-centric development environment, you will bring strong DevOps, Infrastructure and Site Reliability Engineering skills to build, release and maintain services through Development to Production. Operating in Agile Teams and sprint-based release process.

As an experienced DevOps/platform engineer, you will act as a technical specialist and mentor to engineers, adopting an agile approach to delivery where new services or improvements are delivered collaboratively and incrementally to realise business value. Your development will be through a broad range of CI/CD technologies including Azure DevOps, Power Platform, Dynamics, GitHub, Terraform, Jira and confluence.

Top Responsibilities

* Deploy services using Infrastructure as Code (including Terraform) and an automation first approach.

* Design, standardise and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD & Dynamics pipelines, including testing, security scanning, compliance checks and reusable templates.

* Support release and application life cycle management processes by deploying artifacts and solutions across multiple environments

* Apply cloud security best practice, support audits and ensure services meet compliance requirements.

* Optimise platform performance, reliability, cost and operational efficiency through proactive monitoring and analysis.

* Provide technical guidance, troubleshoot complex engineering issues and share best practice across teams.

* Provide hands on support and mentorship across teams, helping to resolve complex technical challenges.

* Developing, enhancing and maintain solutions that put the user and user experience first.

* Fostering continuous improvement of services through identification and implementation of strategic end to end system improvements.

* Demonstrate leadership by providing influence, direction, and guidance to Engineers and Developers to support the delivery of objectives.

About You

* A proven track record in agile infra development and deployment via IaC

* Strong grasp of infrastructure design principles and systematic problem-solving skills.

* Proficient with tools supporting DevOps delivery including Azure DevOps, GitHub, Code repositories, Jira and Confluence.

* Proficiency in Terraform, PowerShell and CLI scripting

* Quick adoption of new programming tools, sharing knowledge with peers and juniors.

* Maintaining, enhancing and troubleshooting pipelines including failures and performance improvements

* Familiar with application release and deployment process across environments

* Awareness of automated code quality and security tools

* Awareness of software design principles and experienced in supported Software release processes

* Experience coaching engineers within Agile frameworks, ensuring quality and timely delivery.

* Effective negotiation and communication with stakeholders on technical matters.

* Experience in diagnosing production issues, utilising testing for solution validation, and understanding of security principles.
