Infrastructure Lead

Location: Derbyshire + regular travel to branches, warehouses and distribution centres

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Business:-

Our client is a leading UK business operating across a large, multi-site network and with ambitious growth plans through to 2028, technology and infrastructure are key to supporting continued operational efficiency and scalability.

They are now looking for an experiencedInfrastructure Lead to take ownership of the infrastructure function, lead a small technical team and oversee a predominantly cloud-based IT estate.

The Role:-

This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll be responsible for the infrastructure team, technical direction and day-to-day operation of the company's infrastructure environment.

You'll lead a team of infrastructure, network and cloud/security engineers, while working closely with the Service Desk, Development and Delivery teams.

The role coverscloud, servers, networking, security, Microsoft 365, end-user devices and infrastructure projects, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a broad technical remit rather than being focused on a single area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage and develop the Infrastructure team.
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for infrastructure issues and major incidents.
  • Own the Windows Server and Linux estate acrossAWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Oversee Active Directory, Entra ID and Microsoft 365.
  • Own the organisation's network, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, VPN and telephony infrastructure.
  • Manage Cisco Meraki networking across multiple sites.
  • Oversee PCs, laptops, mobile devices, warehouse hardware and printers.
  • Ensure effective backup, disaster recovery, patching and vulnerability management.
  • Maintain infrastructure security and supportCyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001 requirements.
  • Manage infrastructure suppliers, contracts, budgets and lifecycle planning.
  • Lead infrastructure projects including cloud migrations, network and Wi-Fi refreshes, hardware rollouts and security improvements.
  • Work closely with the Delivery Lead to prioritise and deliver the infrastructure project roadmap.
  • Travel regularly to operational sites and provide occasional out-of-hours support when required.
About You

We're looking for a technically strong Infrastructure professional who has experience leading teams and managing infrastructure across amulti-site environment.

You'll ideally have:

  • Proven experience leading and managing an infrastructure team.
  • Strong hands-on experience withWindows Server, Active Directory and AWS and/or Azure.
  • Good working knowledge of Linux.
  • Strong network design and troubleshooting experience across LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi environments.
  • Hands-on experience withCisco Meraki or a comparable enterprise network platform.
  • Experience with SD-WAN and managing third-party network/telephony suppliers.
  • Experience managing distributed desktop, mobile and device estates using technologies such asMicrosoft Intune, SOTI or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, patching and vulnerability management.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure projects, migrations and technology refreshes.
  • Strong supplier, contract and budget management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A calm, structured approach to managing major incidents and competing priorities.
Desirable

Experience withAzure Virtual Desktop, Amazon WorkSpaces, Microsoft 365, Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001, ITIL, PowerShell or warehouse/logistics technology would be advantageous.
