Forward Deploy Engineer

Rate: £700-£800/day Inside IR35

Duration: 6 months

Clearance: Active SC Clearance required

Location: London preferred (Bristol or Manchester considered)

Working Pattern: Hybrid with flexible office attendance. Candidates are encouraged to spend more time onsite during onboarding.

Overview

We're looking for an experienced Forward Deploy Engineer to join the Digital & Cyber Capability team within DSIT, helping deliver innovative AI-powered solutions that support the Civil Service's digital transformation agenda.

This is a unique opportunity to work across greenfield products, taking ideas from concept through to production. You'll be the team's primary software engineering specialist, building applied AI solutions, integrating LLMs, and developing scalable software products that support digital capability across government.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, build, and deploy end-to-end software solutions using modern engineering

practices

* Develop AI-enabled applications, integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into

production solutions

* Work across the full software lifecycle, from discovery and prototyping through to

deployment and iteration

* Build frontend and backend components, APIs, databases, and data pipelines

* Integrate AI models into existing products and services

* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate user needs into technical

solutions

* Support deployment, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement of

applications

* Contribute to multiple greenfield initiatives across digital capability and workforce

transformation

Current Projects

You'll contribute to a range of AI-driven initiatives, including:

* Enhancing a job description matching platform using natural language processing and

LLMs

* Developing AI-powered capability and workforce profiling solutions using Civil Service

data

* Building a digital skills passport platform to support workforce mobility across

government

What We're Looking For

* Strong software engineering experience across the full technology stack

* Proven experience designing and delivering applied AI or LLM-based solutions

* Experience with technologies such as:

o Python

o TypeScript

o Wagtail

o APIs

o Databases

o Data pipelines

* Experience integrating AI models into production applications

* Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and end-to-end product

delivery

* Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams

Nice to Have

* Public sector or GDS experience

* Experience with LLMobservability tools such as Langfuse

* Cloud and infrastructure experience including AWS, Terraform and GitHub

* Startup or entrepreneurial background

* Experience working within multidisciplinary Agile teams
