Senior Data Centre Telecoms & Network Design Consultant (EMEA) Location EMEA Region (Remote / Hybrid / Project-Based Engagement)

Engagement Type Consultancy Contract (Full Programme Assignment: 6 months, extendable)

About the Opportunity A specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Data Centre Telecoms & Network Design Consultant to support large-scale infrastructure programmes across EMEA.

This role sits within a high-performance engineering delivery function providing design assurance, architecture support, and technical validation across complex data centre and cloud-integrated environments, including next-generation compute and AI infrastructure.

You will work alongside senior engineering stakeholders, design authorities, and delivery teams to ensure infrastructure designs meet stringent standards for performance, resilience, scalability, and operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities Data Centre & Network Design Assurance

Conduct technical reviews of data centre network and telecoms designs across full project lifecycle (concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning)

Assess and validate spine-leaf, EVPN/VXLAN, and high-performance fabric architectures

Review cluster and compute fabric layouts for high-density workloads and AI/GPU environments

Identify design risks, non-compliance, and scalability limitationsEngineering Governance & Advisory

Provide independent engineering assurance across telecoms and infrastructure design packages

Participate in structured design review sessions with engineering and delivery teams

Support technical decision-making and change control processes

Produce structured risk assessments and technical recommendationsHigh-Performance & Cloud Infrastructure

Support validation of high-performance compute (HPC) and GPU-based infrastructure

Review high-speed network fabrics (100G / 400G / 800G environments)

Assess hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity designsMulti-Stakeholder Technical Support

Collaborate with procurement, construction, and cost engineering teams on technical feasibility assessments

Support vendor design reviews, technical submissions, and equipment validation activities

Provide input into operational readiness and infrastructure handover processesTechnical Documentation

Produce clear and structured engineering documentation including:

Design review reports

Risk registers

Technical assessments and recommendations

Contribute to engineering standards and best practice documentationRequired Experience

10+ years’ experience in telecoms, data centre networking, or infrastructure engineering

Strong background in large-scale enterprise or hyperscale environments

Proven experience in network and data centre design (not just operations or support)

Experience across full delivery lifecycle (design through to commissioning)

Multi-vendor exposure in complex infrastructure environmentsTechnical Expertise

Data centre networking (L2–L4 design principles)

VXLAN / EVPN and spine-leaf architectures

BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPN technologies

SD-WAN and hybrid connectivity design

Cloud networking (Azure, AWS, GCP, or equivalent)

Familiarity with infrastructure automation (Terraform desirable)

Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD and/or BluebeamHighly Desirable Experience

Exposure to AI / GPU / HPC infrastructure environments

Experience in hyperscale or large enterprise data centres

Background in engineering governance or architecture assurance roles

Understanding of structured cabling and physical data centre infrastructure

Experience in consultancy or advisory-based engineering rolesSoft Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

Able to critically evaluate complex technical designs

Confident in engaging with senior engineering stakeholders

Strong written communication and technical reporting skills

Able to operate independently in a remote consultancy environment
