Application Software Engineer

On behalf of our client, a leading UK-based organisation operating at the forefront of defence, security and complex systems engineering, we are seeking an Application Software Engineer to join a growing, highly technical software team.

This organisation designs and develops some of the most advanced command, control and mission systems in service today, working on projects that have genuine national and international impact.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will support the delivery of a demonstration system for a next‑generation Command and Control application, extending established concepts and introducing new logic and capabilities. This demonstrator plays a critical role in shaping future full‑scale operational systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys translating system-level requirements into high‑quality, working software, collaborating closely with domain experts, and delivering capability at pace.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and test software applications, including more complex logic where required

Work closely with internal software, systems and algorithm teams to:

Integrate algorithms into the application

Implement and test data processing and transformation logic

Verify that systems work correctly when combined

Design and integrate software interfaces with:

Other internal systems

External simulation tools

Build, enhance and maintain components within an existing software framework

Deploy and test software within a virtualised environment

Skills & Experience Required

Experience developing application‑level software using C++, C#, Java or a similar language. If you have experience in any one of these, we'd like to hear from you.

Familiarity with modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines
