Senior Software Engineer

83zero is partnered with a pioneering tech company who is seeking a talented Software Developer to join their team and contribute to a major international research infrastructure initiative. This role focuses on building cloud-based digital preservation solutions that support long-term access to valuable research data across Europe.

About the Role

You'll be part of a collaborative, multi-organisation effort to develop tools and services that ensure the integrity, accessibility, and preservation of research outputs. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of commercial software development and international research, contributing to both a thriving SaaS platform and a high-profile European project.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement SaaS solutions for digital preservation.
Develop and integrate software services into a large-scale research infrastructure.
Implement support for project-specific specifications, protocols, and data transformation.
Contribute to a registry of digital preservation tools and services.
Collaborate with stakeholders to validate and refine solutions.
Advance standards and protocols for long-term digital preservation.

Essential Skills

Proficiency in Python, Java, or both.
Experience with cloud-hosted software and REST APIs.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerization.
Strong skills in data/metadata transformation using JSON and XML.
Agile development experience and strong collaboration skills.
2-5 years of software development experience in a commercial or research setting.
Degree-level education.

Desirable Skills

Knowledge of digital preservation standards (e.g., OAIS, METS, PREMIS, OCFL).
Experience in Research Data Management and FAIR principles.
Understanding of Trusted Digital Repositories.
