As part of the IT Infrastructure Operations team, you will play a lead role in the administration and support of our extensive network and server estate, ensuring the reliability, security and performance of mission-critical enterprise IT systems. This role places a particular emphasis on networking and connectivity, where your expertise will help optimise and evolve our LAN, WLAN and WAN infrastructure across the organisation.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a highly experienced and technically skilled individual with a proven track record in networking and enterprise infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate will bring advanced competence in configuring and maintaining Cisco network equipment with the ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex LAN / WLAN / WAN issues, alongside experience in at least three of the following areas:

Cisco certifications such as CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) are highly desirable

Strong knowledge of Storage Area Networks and backup systems

In-depth knowledge and experience of Microsoft platforms including Exchange Server, Active Directory, SharePoint and Windows Server OS

Experience in developing and maintaining IT disaster recovery and business continuity solutions

Excellent and demonstrable automation skills (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform)

Experience implementing and managing servers in clustered VMware or Hyper-V virtualised environments

Strong understanding of IT security, particularly within network and perimeter security

Experience implementing and managing cloud-based platforms and services such as Azure, AWS or Google

Experience with Cisco Unified Communications VOIP platforms

Our team supports the full range of infrastructure solutions, but networking excellence is at the heart of what we do. Flexibility and adaptability across a broad technology set is essential.

About you

You will be a disciplined, solutions-focused thinker capable of working under pressure in a high-output environment. Self-motivation, effective prioritisation, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are key.

We’re seeking someone with:

A passion for networking technologies and enterprise-scale connectivity solutions, combined with fantastic energy and a positive, can-do approach

Leadership skills, including mentoring other Infrastructure Engineers, sharing best practice, and guiding the delivery of network-related projects and technical solutions

The ability to oversee workloads, ensuring incidents, tasks and projects—particularly those involving network infrastructure—are delivered to the highest standards

This is a great opportunity for a technically skilled leader with strong networking expertise looking to make an impact in a challenging and rewarding environment.

anding a job in cloud computing can be highly competitive — especially in the UK market where demand far outpaces supply in many segments. Whether you’re aiming for roles in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability, Cloud Architecture, Security, Data/Analytics, or Platform Operations, hiring managers screen applications quickly and with specific priorities in mind. Hiring managers don’t read every detail at first; they scan for critical signals in the first 10–20 seconds. The Skills Gap in Cloud Computing Jobs: What Universities Aren’t Teaching

Cloud computing underpins almost every modern digital service. From financial systems and healthcare platforms to AI, e-commerce, government infrastructure and cybersecurity, the cloud is now the default operating environment for UK organisations. Demand for cloud professionals has grown rapidly, with roles spanning architecture, engineering, security, DevOps, platform operations and cost optimisation. Salaries remain high, and vacancies remain stubbornly difficult to fill. Yet despite a growing number of graduates with computer science, IT and software engineering degrees, employers across the UK report a persistent problem: Too many candidates are not job-ready for real cloud computing roles. This is not a question of intelligence or motivation. It is a structural skills gap between what universities teach and what cloud jobs actually require. This article explores that gap in depth: what universities do well, what they consistently miss, why the gap exists, what employers genuinely want, and how jobseekers can bridge the divide to build sustainable careers in cloud computing.
