About Brand Nudge

Brand Nudge is a rapidly scaling B2B SaaS business delivering market-leading retail intelligence data to the FMCG and CPG sectors. Our technology helps global brands such as Nestle, Birdseye and Reckitts monitor, understand, and optimise their performance in a competitive retail environment.

Our engineering team plays a crucial role in delivering insights at speed and scale, maintaining a robust, highly-available platform that powers decisions for some of the world’s best-known consumer brands.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to lead key architectural decisions across our Node.js/Koa backend and React/Redux front end. You’ll shape how our platform evolves, ensuring performance, resilience, and reliability while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across Product, Data, and Commercial teams.

This role offers the chance to work with high-volume data, complex queries, real-time dashboards, and sophisticated visualisations—while driving best practices across the entire engineering lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Leadership

  • Taking a senior role in architectural recommendations for our Node.js/Koa services, ensuring performant and maintainable API design as data aggregation grows in complexity.

  • Mentor developers on writing robust PostgreSQL queries (including CTE-driven analytics), Sequelize practices, and avoiding syntax/ORM pitfalls.

  • Enhance instrumentation, caching, and shared utilities to improve observability and platform stability under load.

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to guarantee backend services reliably power dashboards, scorecards, and analytics modules.

    Frontend Leadership

  • Taking a senior role in architectural recommendations in a complex Redux Toolkit + Saga ecosystem, ensuring predictable async flows and scalable state management.

  • Guide implementation of high-performance, data-intensive components using d3, Highcharts, virtualization (react-window), memoization, and React performance rules.

  • Champion accessibility, performance, resilience, and reusability across the UI layer.

  • Strengthen developer experience by refining linting, formatting, Cypress e2e suites and MSW mocks.

    Platform & Tooling

  • Oversee build/test pipelines, npm scripts, CI lint rules, and release-readiness processes.

  • Maintain robust AWS integrations (Amplify, CLI, CDK) and analytics tooling (Mixpanel).

    About You

You are an experienced engineer who thrives on ownership, clarity, and technical excellence. You can balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural thinking and have a track record of mentoring others and improving engineering standards.

    Requirements

  • Extensive experience with Node.js, modern JavaScript/TypeScript, and building/optimising API services.

  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, CTEs, performance tuning, and ORM best practices (ideally Sequelize).

  • Deep experience in React, Redux Toolkit, and Saga/Thunk-based async flows.

  • Familiarity with data-visualisation tooling (Highcharts, d3) and performance optimisation.

  • Experience owning deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and quality tooling.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to guide technical discussions.

    Why Join Brand Nudge?

  • Ownership of mission-critical systems used by leading global brands.

  • Hybrid working model (Reading HQ + remote flexibility).

  • High autonomy and influence over technical direction.

  • Opportunity to mentor and lead within a fast-growing engineering team.

  • Competitive salary.

How Many Cloud Computing Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Cloud Job?

If you are aiming for a role in cloud computing, it can feel like the skills list never ends. One job advert asks for AWS, Terraform and Kubernetes. Another mentions Azure DevOps, PowerShell and ARM templates. A third throws in Docker, Python, Linux, CI/CD, monitoring tools and security frameworks. It is no surprise that many cloud job seekers feel overwhelmed before they even apply. Here is the reality most cloud hiring managers agree on: they are not hiring you because you know every cloud tool. They are hiring you because you understand cloud concepts, can design reliable systems, manage costs, keep things secure and support real workloads. Tools matter, but only when they support outcomes. So how many cloud computing tools do you actually need to know to get a job? For most roles, the answer is far fewer than you think. This article explains what employers really expect, which tools are essential, which are role-specific, and how to focus your learning so you look capable and employable rather than scattered.
