Platform Engineer - Dev Ops

Navy Digital Services has delivered two 'on-premise' multi-tenant cloud hosting platforms to support the Royal Navy's digital strategy. There are a number of live applications on the Navy Digital Hosting (NDH) platform, a number currently being on-boarded with more being added to the backlog. The service also provides and hosts services that replace/re-platform existing applications along with new services. The cloud hosting services are not static, new services are being introduced to meet demand and requirements for cloud tenants and application providers as required. The successful candidate will work as an infrastructure DevOps engineer within the NDH engineering team to build and enhance infrastructure automation tooling for the delivery of an efficient and high-quality private cloud hosting service.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Kubernetes offering
  • Make enhancements to the Kubernetes
  • Automation of cloud deployments and day 2 operational tasks in a cloud service provider environment
  • Infrastructure (not software development) DevOps
  • Creation of operating procedures and knowledge articles / process
  • Creation and on-going updates to detailed system design and configuration documentation.
  • Contribute and add input to on-going designs and service improvements

    Working Hours

    9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday

    Person Specification

    Essential Experience:

  • Experience with creating and maintaining Kubernetes.
  • Experience creating clusters from scratch
  • Security Clearance
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in containerisation

  • Experience in DevOps within an infrastructure and network context
  • Must have operational experience in a production setting with VMWare Cloud Foundation operations

  • Start date - ASAP
  • Contract end - 12/01/2026
  • Rate - dependent on interview and experience.
  • Base Location - Portsdown Technology Park, Portsmouth
