Lead / Principal Software Developer – Platform Development
Location: London – Hybrid (4 days studio-based)
Type: Full-time, Permanent

A leading global creative technology studio is looking for a Lead / Principal Software Developer to help shape the future direction of its flagship digital platform—an intuitive, visually rich product that’s changing how large-scale construction projects are visualised and brought to market.

Following the award of several major contracts with global developers and real estate groups, the studio is entering a key growth phase. As part of this major investment, the team is expanding—and this newly created role will be central to building out the platform’s next evolution. You’ll take ownership of technical direction while supporting the team through delivery at scale.

The Impact You’ll Have

  • This is a hands-on development role with the added scope to influence platform direction and engineering strategy.

  • You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and Client Services to improve delivery workflows, raise engineering standards, and ensure the platform remains stable, performant, and scalable.

    What You’ll Do

  • Lead a small talented team of software developers

  • Own and evolve the platform’s technical roadmap in line with business goals

  • Lead the development of scalable systems covering frontend, backend, CMS, APIs, and cloud infrastructure

  • Guide and support a high-performing team across engineering disciplines, including QA and DevOps

  • Set and maintain high standards for code quality, system security, testing, and delivery workflows

  • Identify and implement third-party tools that provide clear technical or commercial value (e.g. CRM, data services, visual layers)

  • Shape agile delivery processes and improve collaboration across teams

    What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience as a Lead / Principal Software Developer or similar senior engineering role in SaaS, PropTech or platform-focused environments

  • Strong working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, React or Vue, Node.js, and REST/GraphQL APIs

  • Confidence managing and evolving complex, modular architecture

  • Familiarity with headless CMS platforms (e.g. Sanity, Contentful) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

  • A hands-on leadership style with a clear focus on delivery, engineering quality, and team development

    Why This Role?

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Lead / Principal Software Developer ready to take the next step in their career—combining technical ownership with strategic input. As Lead / Principal Software Developer, you’ll have the autonomy to drive decisions, influence the future of a platform with real-world reach, and play a key role in how high-value developments are presented and sold worldwide

AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud now sit behind almost every modern app, and UK employers—from fintechs in Shoreditch to NHS data-science teams—are hiring cloud specialists faster than universities can graduate them. UK universities have responded with a wave of cloud-first master’s degrees, research centres and AWS- or Azure-aligned certificate tracks. Whether you want to optimise GPU clusters, build server-less back-ends or design multi-cloud security policies, there’s a programme that fits. Below are the ten universities we see leading the charge for the 2025 intake, plus tips on turning an academic credential into a career in cloud.

Veterans in Cloud Computing: A Military‑to‑Civilian Pathway into Cloud Careers

Introduction The United Kingdom’s public‑cloud market will exceed £45 billion by 2026 (Gartner forecast), fuelled by government digital‑service mandates, fintech scale‑ups, and the MOD’s own Cloud Strategic Roadmap 2025. From hybrid defence networks to NHS electronic health records, almost every mission‑critical workload is moving to AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). That explosive demand collides with a nationwide skills shortage—over 135,000 unfilled cloud roles in 2024, according to TechUK. Veterans already possess the security clearances, network know‑how, and operational discipline that cloud employers crave. This guide shows you how to translate your military experience into cloud‑native language, leverage Ministry of Defence (MoD) transition funding, and secure a rewarding second career (with salaries starting at £40k and rising above £100k for cleared DevSecOps leads).
