Devops Engineer

Key Accountabilities

As an engineer in this team, you’ll be responsible for a product and its related services from end-to-end. As well as designing, implementing, integrating and testing worklflows (aka pipeline) capabilities, you will be working closely with other service line teams to ensure our services continually evolve to meet their needs. You will also provide both production and development support, given that we live & breathe the values of “you build it, you run it”.

Qualifications and experience

As an engineer in the team, the following knowledge and experience will be invaluable:

  • Fullstack engineering, particularly in an enterprise environment

  • A strong understanding of the challenges around and approaches to enabling an engineering organisation to deliver in a truly agile way, covering people and process as well as tools and technologies

  • A proven track-record in designing and implementing tooling / automation solutions that underpin the software development lifecycle

    Essential Skills

    From a technical perspective, we are looking for an experienced software engineer (5+ years experience), with solid experience encompassing the following:

  • Git (particularly GitHub)

  • Java / Kotlin

  • JavaScript

  • Python

  • Shell Scripting

  • Test-driven development

  • Architectural and design patterns

  • Troubleshooting skills

  • Working in an agile, cross-functional team

    As an engineer in the team, the right personality is as important as technical skill and experience – we are looking for people who are:

  • Open and collaborative – much of the work we do involves working closely with internal customers, partners and vendors

  • Outcome and customer focused (engineers across HSBC being our customers)

  • Clear communicators

  • Curious, and wanting to solve interesting problems

  • Prepared to challenge the status quo and always be pushing for smarter ways of working

  • Adaptable

    Desirable Skills

    Experience in the following technologies would be valuable though not essential:

  • Jenkins

  • Ansible

  • Nexus

  • Nexus IQ

  • Prometheus

  • Grafana/Splunk
