Position overview:

Sembcorp Energy UK’s Application Developer (AD) is pivotal to the success of the UK business. The applications that SEUK has deployed operate and report on the key assets, under pinning SEUK’s entire business model.

SEUK currently has legacy and COTS applications to support multiple business processes. We also develop bespoke applications which help us differentiate ourselves in the market, gain competitive advantage and support the organisation where functionality is either niche or specialist. The development, security and maintenance of these applications is paramount to the operation of this business.

SEUK has a large portfolio of web applications that need modernisation and enhancement. These applications are built on a variety of technologies such as .Net Framework (VB and C#) and classic ASP. These applications support a variety of business areas and underpin our business.

An Application Developer will be responsible for the delivery of all application enhancements, application support and application monitoring. They will work with our existing development team in redeveloping key business applications to bring them in line with modern technologies and a cloud first structure.

The AD will be responsible for selecting the right technologies in line with fiscal constraints. The AD will have responsibility of simplifying the current application base and ensuring users have the right technology to facilitate customer requirements. This will extend to data capture and storage technologies including the provision and management of Sembcorp UK historian services. The AD will develop API’s for the easy access of data across our Wilton business.

The AD will work with Application Development and Support Manager to define the right support model for all applications, where possible and to ensure an economy of scale the UK will use corporately brokered contracts and corporate systems. The AD will ensure that all relevant SLAs are met and adhered to.

A key area of the AD’s role will be to simplify the current software architecture within SEUK and utilise the application support team to deliver this. This will enable SEUK to operate and report on its assets with confidence. An important factor in this is to produce robust technical documentation covering all aspects of the applications utilised by SEUK’s operational department. This will enable clarity of business processes allowing easier support models. SEUK’s Wilton business is currently using on-premise application solutions and the AD will be responsible in migrating these applications to an Azure cloud first solution. They will work with our Cloud Architect and our DevOps resource to migrate the applications to the cloud where possible.

The AD will work with the Application Development and Support Manager on operational asset data which will involve cataloguing and reporting on systems used with SEUK to operate its Wilton business. This will allow the AD to define an accurate list of operational data assets and their associated meta data. This will form the basis of accurately monitoring and reporting on Asset data throughout the Wilton business.

One of the most important aspects of the AD role will be to work with the application support team to enhance a change control process. This will enable the recording and reporting on changes made to applications and minimise risk to the business.

As the AD will be part of the application support team, they will also be responsible for software development, configuring and implementation of operational data repositories, reporting, documentation and maintenance of current applications within the Wilton business.
