Job Title: Software Development Engineer
Location: Hybrid (1-2 days in office) - Headrow, Leeds
Duration: 6 months

Role Overview:

We are looking for a skilled Software Development Engineer to join our engineering team. You will be working on maintaining and delivering changes to the infrastructure supporting savings and payments services. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a highly regulated financial environment, working with cutting-edge technology to enhance system performance, scalability, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, document, and test software/configurations, ensuring compliance with development standards and business requirements.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot systems by diagnosing and resolving live defects/incidents.

  • Participate in peer reviews of documentation, code, unit, and integration testing.

  • Work closely with architects, analysts, and product owners to translate business needs into technical solutions.

  • Continuously update technical knowledge through internal training and self-learning.

  • Perform impact analysis and estimation on requirements and designs.

  • Ensure system design meets standards for architecture, performance, security, and maintainability.

    Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency in COBOL (preferably using a COBOL IT compiler), Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, Forms, and Perforce.

  • Experience in delivering software changes within financial services, with an understanding of regulatory requirements and experience with savings and payments systems is highly desirable.

  • Strong documentation skills with an ability to understand complex database packages and Cobol modules.

  • Ability to interpret complex data and develop effective solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Knowledge and experience working in a DevOps delivery methodology
