Unify are proud to be exclusively representing an exciting scale-up business who are looking to engage a Contract Senior QA Automation Engineer to help them accelerate their Test Automation journey.

This Contract will be for initially 3 months, however it is highly likely to extend longer term.

The role will be Remote however, there is an expectation of 1 in-person meeting, in Bristol per month.

Overview:

We’re seeking an experienced QA Automation Engineer to contribute to the expansion and improvement of our clients automated testing framework. This contract role focuses on building and maintaining robust test automation for an evolving platform, accelerating coverage of existing core functionality, and supporting long-term quality and reliability of releases.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Automation Development:

  • Build and maintain end-to-end automated UI tests using Playwright (TypeScript).
  • Improve and expand the existing test suite to cover regression and feature-level behaviour.
  • Ensure test automation is integrated into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., via GitHub Actions).
  • Refactor existing tests to ensure reliability, maintainability, and clarity.

    Test Reliability & Integration:
  • Collaborate with engineering to improve test stability in build pipelines.
  • Diagnose and resolve test flakiness issues across staging and production environments.

    Quality & Test Governance:
  • Maintain consistent test structure, naming, and performance benchmarks.
  • Contribute to monitoring and improving test coverage and efficiency.
  • Support tooling and workflow improvements for long-term scalability.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with QA, developers, and product managers to understand requirements and define test strategies.
  • Align test scenarios with real-world user behaviour and business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with platform or DevOps engineers to optimise CI/CD test integration.

    Skills & Experience Required:

    Technical:
  • Proficiency in Playwright with TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of UI and API automation techniques.
  • Integration of tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).
  • Hands-on experience working in collaborative codebases (Git, branching workflows).
  • Familiarity with DOM structure, CSS selectors, and API interactions.

    Soft Skills:
  • Self-directed approach with the ability to operate autonomously once onboarded.
  • Strong communicator—able to clarify ideas across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Pragmatic and iterative in approach; prioritises value and maintainability in test coverage.
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities to improve quality and workflow.

    Ideal Profile:
  • 5-8 years in QA Automation roles.
  • Experience shipping high-quality test automation solutions in product-focused environments.
  • Strong understanding of both technical automation patterns and end-user behaviour.
  • Values building reliable systems and enabling development teams to move faster with confidence.
