ClimateTech

Want to use your backend skills to fight climate change?

At Bohr, your code won’t just power systems, it will directly protect the planet. We’re tackling one of the world’s most urgent challenges: helping Europe’s gas networks detect and repair methane leaks faster, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the transition to a zero-carbon future.

About Bohr

Everything we do at Bohr is driven by a single purpose: to decarbonise energy through innovation. We’re accelerating the energy transition through the Hydrogen Economy and Zero-Carbon Gas Grids, tackling complex gas measurement and control challenges along the way.

Through our methane emissions division, Tectrac, we combine cutting-edge mobile leak detection technology with advanced analytics and GIS-led insights. Our platform helps utilities spot the largest methane leaks quickly, repair them efficiently, and dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help design, build, and scale the cloud-based platforms that power our methane detection and emissions intelligence systems. You’ll work with high-volume data from mobile survey equipment as well as telemetry from low-cost sensors across the gas network, developing performant, resilient backend services that turn complex data into actionable insights for utilities.

You’ll be part of a lean, collaborative startup team where innovation, reliability, and real-world impact all matter. Occasionally you may contribute to 3rd-line support, giving you insight into how your systems perform in production, and you may engage with customers and partners to help translate technical possibilities into practical solutions.

What Success Looks Like

You’ll build backend systems that integrate survey, geospatial, and emissions data into a single, trusted platform. Fast, reliable releases, scalable cloud infrastructure, and mentoring peers will be key.

Most importantly, your work will have a measurable impact, helping gas networks prioritise repairs and reduce methane emissions.

What We’re Looking For

We’re after someone technically strong, environmentally motivated, and excited by solving complex problems that have a real-world impact.

Essential:

  • 7+ years’ backend engineering experience.

  • Strong experience with modern Java (21+) and RESTful frameworks.

  • Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases.

  • Cloud deployment experience (Azure preferred).

  • Experience with CI/CD, containerisation, and testing frameworks.

  • Clear communicator, able to explain complex ideas and collaborate across teams.

  • Passion for technology that drives sustainability and positive environmental impact.

    Desirable:

  • Experience with PostGIS, time-series or geospatial data.

  • Familiarity with distributed microservices architectures.

  • Exposure to methane detection, energy, or environmental data.

  • Lean development mindset and experience mentoring others.

    Why Join Bohr?

At Bohr, your work really matters, you’ll make a measurable difference in the fight against climate change, play a central role in helping the UK and Europe meet net zero targets, and join a fast-growing company where your backend expertise shapes core product functionality and long-term operational excellence.

    You’ll also enjoy

  • Hybrid working with autonomy and flexibility in our Bristol office

  • Up to £75,000 (BOE)

  • Pension contributions

  • 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays

  • Participate in our EMI share scheme.

If you’re a senior backend engineer who wants to combine technical challenge with environmental impact, this is your chance to help build systems that protect the planet and transform energy networks for a sustainable future

Cloud Computing Hiring Trends 2026: What to Watch Out For (For Job Seekers & Recruiters)

As we move into 2026, the cloud computing jobs market in the UK is shifting again. The era of “lift & shift everything to the cloud” is giving way to a more mature, cost-conscious & security-focused phase. Many organisations are tightening budgets, some are rationalising cloud spend, yet demand for strong cloud talent remains high – especially around multi-cloud, FinOps, cloud security, data platforms & AI on cloud. Vendors are racing to integrate generative AI into their offerings, enterprises are modernising legacy estates, & regulators are asking tougher questions about resilience, sovereignty & risk. At the same time, some roles are being automated or commoditised, & the bar for cloud roles keeps rising. Whether you are a cloud job seeker planning your next move, or a recruiter building cloud teams, understanding the key cloud computing hiring trends for 2026 will help you stay ahead.

Cloud Computing Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Must Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK cloud hiring has shifted from title-led CV screens to capability-driven assessments that emphasise platform reliability, cost control (FinOps), defence-in-depth security, automation via IaC, high-availability design, and measurable business impact. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for platform engineers, SREs, cloud security engineers, DevOps, solutions architects, FinOps practitioners & data/AI platform engineers. Who this is for: Cloud/platform engineers, SREs, DevOps, cloud security, FinOps, network engineers, solutions/enterprise architects, data/ML platform engineers, observability engineers & cloud product managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Cloud Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For many years, cloud computing careers in the UK meant roles for infrastructure specialists, system administrators, network engineers & software developers. Today, the picture looks very different. Cloud has become the backbone of digital transformation across industries — from healthcare to finance, education to government. With that reach comes new expectations. Cloud isn’t just about servers & storage anymore. It’s about handling sensitive data responsibly, meeting regulatory obligations, designing intuitive user experiences, communicating clearly with diverse stakeholders & understanding how people actually interact with complex digital systems. This means cloud careers are increasingly multidisciplinary, requiring expertise in law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design alongside technical skills. In this article, we’ll explore why cloud careers in the UK are broadening, how these five disciplines intersect with cloud work, what it means for job-seekers & employers, and how to future-proof your career in this fast-changing sector.
