Roving Site Operative – Household Waste Recycling Centre

Salary – £12.47 per hour
Hours – Full-time, 34.5 hours per week
Location – Various HWRCs in Bedfordshire available – Ampthill, Thorn Turn, Leighton Buzzard, Biggleswade

As a Site Operative at FCC Environment, you will work at one of our Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) sites in Central Bedfordshire. Your role is to assist the public with waste disposal and ensure that recyclable materials are properly segregated and managed. This is a vital front-line role where you will play a key part in helping the community recycle effectively and safely.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working across five days.

    What will you be doing?

  • Ensuring the segregation of different waste streams into appropriate containers
  • Greeting the public and assisting with waste disposal
  • Providing general recycling advice
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy site
  • Storing waste safely and in accordance with permit requirements
  • Handling hazardous waste appropriately
  • Reporting Health & Safety incidents per company guidelines
  • Identifying contaminated recyclable materials and taking corrective action
  • Complying with all relevant policies, procedures, and safe working practices

    What are we looking for?

  • A full UK Driving Licence is essential
  • Someone who is hard-working, honest and trustworthy
  • A team player who can also work independently
  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in all weather conditions are a plus
