Our global EdTech client seeks a Software Engineering Manager - React Native to join their team.

The Software Engineering Manager (React Native) will work 100% remotely from anywhere in the UK.

MFK Recruitment has recruited four Software Engineers to this company in the past 18 months. All four individuals are still with the company and really enjoying their roles!

You will lead a team of 4-6 mobile engineers in enhancing and maintaining our flagship React Native application and supporting our legacy products. Your leadership will directly impact student success by ensuring the delivery of high-quality, performant, and engaging mobile experiences.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive technical excellence and maintainability of a complex codebase.

  • Balance strategic leadership (50-70%) with hands-on development (30-50%).

  • Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team.

  • This is a unique opportunity to lead both technically and operationally, making a tangible impact on higher education through technology while building and mentoring a world-class mobile engineering team.

    Software Engineering Manager (React Native) - Main Responsibilities:

  • Shape the technical vision for our mobile applications, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance optimization.

  • Lead the maintenance and improvement of our codebase, ensuring its long-term health and sustainability.

  • Establish and promote best practices for React Native development, TypeScript usage, and mobile architectures.

  • Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance development efficiency.

  • Drive technical debt reduction, code quality initiatives and sustainable code maintenance.

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of 4-6 mobile engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.

  • Provide technical coaching, career development guidance, and structured feedback.

  • Conduct code reviews, pair programming sessions, and architecture discussions.

  • Manage team performance metrics and development goals.

  • Actively contribute to the React Native mobile codebase, implementing features and solving complex technical challenges.

  • Maintain high code quality standards and TypeScript best practices.

  • Oversee sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and project execution.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to align technical goals with business objectives.

  • Implement and maintain effective CI/CD pipelines.

    Software Engineering Manager (React Native) - Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in React Native and mobile development.

  • 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.

  • Strong TypeScript expertise and experience with large codebases.

  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and lead technical strategy.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, mobile performance optimization, and cloud services.

  • Familiarity with mobile monitoring tools (e.g., Sentry) and observability platforms.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.

    Software Engineering Manager (React Native) - Desirable:

  • Experience with deployment automation tools.

  • Previous experience in hiring and building high-performance mobile engineering teams.

  • Experience with mobile-specific security best practices.

  • Knowledge of native iOS/Android development.

    Although this role is 100% remote, the person in this position should be expected to travel for certain customer / industry / company events and engagements as necessary
