Are you a passionate Linux System Administrator looking for an exciting opportunity in the utilities sector? Our client is seeking a skilled professional to join their dynamic team for an initial 6-month contract. This is your chance to engage in impactful projects, tackle critical challenges, and collaborate with talented professionals in the field.

Role: Linux System Administrator

Duration: 6 Months (extension options)

Location: Remote

Rate: £500 per day (umbrella)

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Head of QA Engineering, you'll design, implement, and manage software testing, platforms, and tooling, both SaaS and on-premise. Your expertise will ensure system quality and performance while driving automation and operational excellence. You will be an advocate for Agile principles, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Address various ad-hoc requests and ensure seamless operations.
Patch critical vulnerabilities to enhance system security.
Build and deploy new software solutions.
Collaborate closely with the cyber security team to safeguard our systems.

What You Bring:

To thrive in this role, you should have a solid background in the following areas:

Hardware Expertise: Proficient with storage, compute, firewalls, switches, UPS, and related hardware.
Infrastructure Software: Experience with hypervisors (mainly VMware), containerisation technologies (OpenShift, Kubernetes), and Linux systems. Knowledge of storage/SAN is a plus.
DevOps Skills: Familiarity with scripting and automation tools such as Ansible, Git, CI/CD, and REST APIs.

Nice to Have:

Experience with Red Hat OpenShift.
