Location: South West of England

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000

Chapman Tate Associates are proud to be working with a highly respected and innovative manufacturing business currently looking to expand their Infrastructure team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced IBM Power / Midrange Systems Engineer to join a well-established and technology-driven environment.

In this role, you will support and maintain Linux-based systems running on IBM Power-VM and VMware ESXi virtualisation platforms. You will also contribute to key infrastructure projects and provide expert support for critical systems across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, document and maintain Linux servers and associated management platforms, ensuring compliance with build standards and security policies.

  • Proactively monitor and report on system capacity and performance.

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support for Linux and IBM-Power platforms.

  • Lead and contribute to infrastructure projects, delivering high-quality solutions aligned to business needs.

  • Ensure availability of mid-range platforms, resolving service-affecting issues as necessary.

  • Implement best practices across Linux platforms to meet availability, security, and performance targets.

  • Foster strong working relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners.

    Skills & Experience Required:

  • Strong background in designing, implementing, and supporting Linux systems (RHEL, SLES).

  • Experience with RedHat Satellite Server.

  • Proficient in shell scripting (Bash, Korn).

  • Strong understanding of server performance analysis and optimisation.

  • Experience using monitoring tools such as Zabbix and Grafana.

  • Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).

  • Exposure to containerisation and DevOps technologies (Docker, Git, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps).

  • Flexibility to travel between UK-based sites and participate in out-of-hours support as part of a rota (37.5 hour week).

    Desirable Experience:

  • IBM Power, AIX, VIO, NIM, CMC / HMC administration.

  • Designing and supporting high availability architectures.

  • Experience with public cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS).

  • Job scheduling tools such as Redwood Cronacle / RunMyJobs.

  • Understanding of project methodologies such as SAFe Agile, Prince II, or ITIL.
