Job Description

Are you an Embedded Software Test Engineer looking to work on cutting-edge electro-optic sensor systems that enhance maritime defence capabilities? At ALTEN UK, we partner with industry leaders to tackle complex engineering challenges. Join our team and be at the forefront of software testing for mission-critical systems, pushing the boundaries of sensor technology while collaborating with top engineers in the field.

Key Details:
Location: On-site in Glasgow or Edinburgh
Security Clearance: Must be SC clearable
Experience Level: 5+ years’ experience in embedded software testing

Key Responsibilities:

Design and execute software test cases to verify embedded system requirements, ensuring full test coverage.
Set up and manage test environments for hardware and software integration, supporting complex system validation.
Plan and conduct software test campaigns, integrating real hardware with simulation and emulation tools.
Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, reports, compliance records, and fault logs.
Perform manual and automated testing in Linux and Windows environments, ensuring software reliability.
Investigate and report defects, providing clear reproduction steps and root cause analysis to engineering teams.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

5+ years’ experience in embedded software test engineering, ideally within defence, aerospace, or other safety-critical systems
Strong understanding of black-box and white-box testing methodologies
Proficient in working with real-time embedded systems and software/hardware version control tools
Skilled in test case generation, metrics tracking, and compliance verification
Experience using DOORS for requirements management and test traceability
Familiarity with test automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelinesRequired Qualifications:

Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computing field OR Equivalent applied experience from a UK Armed Forces technical backgroundDesirable Skills:

Knowledge of IEC-61508 or DO-178C standards for safety-critical software testing
Experience with automated test scripting and working within Agile or Waterfall methodologies
Background in software development, particularly with C, C++, or Python
