Help Build a Scalable Cloud Platform Powering the Net-Zero Transition

A forward-thinking, AI-driven technology company in the energy sector is seeking a talented Cloud Engineer to take ownership of its growing cloud infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity to make a direct impact by supporting scalable, secure, and high-performing systems that help commercial buildings move towards net-zero.

You’ll play a key role in managing and evolving cloud architecture, working in a collaborative engineering environment with data and software teams. This role goes beyond typical operations — it’s about leading cloud strategy, infrastructure-as-code, security automation, and continuous improvement.

About the Role

As a Cloud Engineer, you'll take the lead in provisioning and managing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) resources, implementing best-in-class infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform, and shaping the entire cloud environment to meet growing demands.

You’ll manage network architecture (including Tailscale VPN), build automated CI/CD security checks, support capacity planning, and ensure compliance with ISO-27001. This role also involves enabling other teams through shared tooling, mentoring, and documentation — multiplying engineering productivity and improving system reliability across the board.

With a strong focus on automation, security, and cloud efficiency, this role offers the opportunity to shape a scalable infrastructure strategy while contributing directly to real-world sustainability outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Provision, configure, and manage GCP resources using Terraform and other IaC tools.

*

Design and maintain secure network infrastructure and VPN configurations.

*

Lead the development of automated CI/CD security and compliance workflows.

*

Monitor system health, optimise for cost and performance, and support auto-scaling strategies.

*

Plan for cloud capacity, disaster recovery, and maintain infrastructure SLOs.

*

Mentor development teams on infrastructure best practices and standardise cloud tooling.

*

Champion a DevOps culture and drive continuous improvement across the cloud stack.

Key Skills & Experience

Cloud Infrastructure

*

Significant experience managing GCP environments at scale.

*

Strong Infrastructure-as-Code expertise (Terraform essential).

*

Proven experience with cloud security, access controls, and compliance frameworks such as ISO-27001.

*

Familiarity with cloud networking, VPNs, and secure connectivity.

*

AWS / Azure

DevOps & Automation

*

Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and cloud operations.

*

Experience with monitoring and alerting platforms (e.g., Datadog, Grafana).

*

Understanding of cost optimisation, resource tagging, and forecasting.

*

Scripting abilities for cloud automation and configuration.

What’s on Offer

*

Flexible hybrid working with regular team days in Birmingham.

*

26 days of flexible holiday + bank holidays.

*

Enhanced family leave and inclusive policies.

*

Comprehensive benefits including life assurance, private healthcare, pension, and income protection.

*

A supportive, purpose-driven culture that values autonomy and innovation.

Cloud Computing Hiring Trends 2026: What to Watch Out For (For Job Seekers & Recruiters)

As we move into 2026, the cloud computing jobs market in the UK is shifting again. The era of “lift & shift everything to the cloud” is giving way to a more mature, cost-conscious & security-focused phase. Many organisations are tightening budgets, some are rationalising cloud spend, yet demand for strong cloud talent remains high – especially around multi-cloud, FinOps, cloud security, data platforms & AI on cloud. Vendors are racing to integrate generative AI into their offerings, enterprises are modernising legacy estates, & regulators are asking tougher questions about resilience, sovereignty & risk. At the same time, some roles are being automated or commoditised, & the bar for cloud roles keeps rising. Whether you are a cloud job seeker planning your next move, or a recruiter building cloud teams, understanding the key cloud computing hiring trends for 2026 will help you stay ahead.

Cloud Computing Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Must Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK cloud hiring has shifted from title-led CV screens to capability-driven assessments that emphasise platform reliability, cost control (FinOps), defence-in-depth security, automation via IaC, high-availability design, and measurable business impact. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for platform engineers, SREs, cloud security engineers, DevOps, solutions architects, FinOps practitioners & data/AI platform engineers. Who this is for: Cloud/platform engineers, SREs, DevOps, cloud security, FinOps, network engineers, solutions/enterprise architects, data/ML platform engineers, observability engineers & cloud product managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Cloud Computing Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

For many years, cloud computing careers in the UK meant roles for infrastructure specialists, system administrators, network engineers & software developers. Today, the picture looks very different. Cloud has become the backbone of digital transformation across industries — from healthcare to finance, education to government. With that reach comes new expectations. Cloud isn’t just about servers & storage anymore. It’s about handling sensitive data responsibly, meeting regulatory obligations, designing intuitive user experiences, communicating clearly with diverse stakeholders & understanding how people actually interact with complex digital systems. This means cloud careers are increasingly multidisciplinary, requiring expertise in law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design alongside technical skills. In this article, we’ll explore why cloud careers in the UK are broadening, how these five disciplines intersect with cloud work, what it means for job-seekers & employers, and how to future-proof your career in this fast-changing sector.
