Backend Developer

Location: Duxford, Cambridgeshire

Hours: 9:00am – 5:30pm – Hybrid with 3 days per week in the office

Salary: ££Competitive

Benefits: 22 days holiday per annum rising by 1 day per full year employed until 25 days holiday have been awards + 8 bank holidays, hybrid working, salary sacrifice pension plan, critical illness, group life cover, company bonus scheme, employee assistance programme, employee benefits platform, international football tournament.

Our client is looking to expand their technical team and is looking for a talented Backend Developer to join their expanding IT team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced backend developer with a background in cloud-native or SaaS environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong web development skills, ideally with hands-on experience using Laravel 12 or a similar PHP framework.

What our client offers:

  • Work on building and improving backend systems for new and existing web applications

  • Collaborate with frontend developers and other team members to deliver full-stack features

  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using PHP (Laravel or similar frameworks)

  • Support cloud-based deployment and infrastructure management

  • Troubleshoot issues, debug code, and fix bugs as they arise

  • Contribute to improving system performance and reliability

  • Take part in code reviews and share feedback with the team

  • Help shape and maintain API integrations with third-party services

  • Stay updated with best practices and emerging technologies

    What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience as a backend developer in a cloud-native or SaaS environment- 3+ years

  • Strong knowledge of PHP, ideally with experience using Laravel 12 or similar frameworks

  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g. MySQL)

  • Understanding of API development and integration (RESTful APIs)

  • Familiarity with Git version control

  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams

  • Good problem-solving and debugging skills

  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines (desirable)

  • Knowledge of Docker and containerised environments (a bonus)

  • Comfortable using cloud platforms like AWS or similar (preferred)
