Lead Cyber Security Engineer – Contract
Location: London | Remote/Hybrid Options
Contract: 6 Months (Extension Likely)
Rate: £600 – £750/day (Outside IR35)

Mploy Group is working with a leading UK retail organisation on a critical cyber security transformation programme. We’re seeking a Lead Cyber Security Engineer to join on a contract basis and drive the design, delivery, and optimisation of advanced security solutions.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a hands-on leadership role in safeguarding digital infrastructure while guiding a team of engineers and influencing security strategy.

Role Overview:
As the Lead Cyber Security Engineer, you’ll lead technical initiatives across threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and secure architecture. You’ll act as the technical authority on cyber risk mitigation and will collaborate with internal and third-party teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:



Lead the technical design and implementation of cyber security controls across on-prem and cloud environments (AWS/Azure).

Drive maturity in security operations – including SIEM, EDR, threat intelligence and incident response.

*

Mentor and support a small team of security engineers and analysts.

*

Perform and oversee vulnerability assessments, remediation plans, and penetration testing cycles.

*

Champion security best practices in DevOps and cloud-native environments.

*

Contribute to the development of security architecture and secure-by-design principles across projects.

*

Collaborate with compliance and risk teams to ensure alignment with ISO 27001, NIST, Cyber Essentials+, and GDPR.

Skills & Experience Required:

*

5+ years in a senior or lead cyber security role.

*

Strong hands-on experience with modern security tooling: SIEM (Splunk, Sentinel), EDR (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne), IAM, firewalls, IDS/IPS.

*

Deep understanding of cloud security (AWS and/or Azure).

*

Experience in defining and delivering security architecture or large-scale security uplift programmes.

*

Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills.

*

Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or AWS/Azure Security certs are highly desirable.

Contract Details:

Daily Rate: £600 – £750/day (depending on experience)

*

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

*

Location: UK-Based (Remote or Hybrid)

*

Initial Term: 6 Months (with strong potential for extension)
